The city of Casablanca transformed into the global capital of Nanbudo this weekend as it hosted the 7th Nanbudo World Championship, bringing together more than 150 athletes from 17 countries in a spectacular celebration of martial arts, discipline, and international friendship.

For two days, competitors from across Europe, Africa, and Asia faced off in kata, ju randori, balance combat, and nanbudo kumite, offering audiences an impressive display of skill, strength, and spirit. The championship, organized under the aegis of the International Nanbudo Federation (INF), confirmed the sport’s dynamic growth and its expanding global appeal.

Morocco Leads Medal Tally
The host nation Morocco due to biggest participation topped the overall standings, capturing an outstanding 69 medals – including 18 gold, 22 silver, and 29 bronze. The Moroccan team’s depth and versatility across categories made them the undeniable leaders of the tournament.
Close behind, Croatia with smaller but excellent team showcased its excellence with 30 medals (16 gold, 8 silver, 6 bronze), while Cameroon with strong and attractive team confirmed its strong position in the sport, securing 42 medals (15 gold, 17 silver, 10 bronze). Other nations making the podium included fantastic teams of Switzerland and Italu with most succesful kata teams, Türkiye, the UAE, France, Bulgaria, Russia, Congo, and Côte d’Ivoire.

Across weight classes and age categories, the championship saw breathtaking finals, emotional victories, and powerful demonstrations of Nanbudo’s spirit.
A Global Celebration of Martial Arts
This edition marked the fourth time Morocco has hosted the World Nanbudo Championship, after successful editions in 2011, 2017, and 2022. Organizers hailed it as a major milestone for the sport in Africa, reflecting Morocco’s ambition to position itself as a hub for martial arts events.

“Nanbudo is more than a sport – it is a way of life, a philosophy that unites cultures,” said officials during the closing ceremony. “The 7th World Championship has shown once again that our community is growing stronger, more connected, and more competitive.”
